The Top Three Factors For Hand rearing Puppies Successfully
Hand-rearing methods have became very popular these days, since its development
it has aided in making it so much easier to hand raise orphaned and abandoned
puppies. Most dog owners continue to have a high success rate in raising newborn
puppies, due to the fact that they pay close attention to theses three following
principles: Providing a appropriate environment; providing nutritionally
complete food; and providing a daily feeding schedule.
1. Providing a desirable living environment: It is important to provide the
right living environment for your puppy such as creating a warm temperature, the
right humidity, and keeping him comfortable, quiet, and uninterrupted are the 3
most significant requirements for its appropriate environment.
2. Creating a nutritionally complete diet: Most dog owners know that a mother's
milk is the best choice for a young puppy. However, any substitute given to the
puppy should be as approximate to the mother's milk as possible. A cow's milk is
really to dilute for a newborn puppy, and should only be substituted as an
emergency source of food. This should only be used as a temporary solution, and
replaced with something more suitable as quickly as possible.
There is a more desirable emergency formula, which can be produced from canned
milk. You can mix one part of water with three parts canned evaporated milk.
This mixture should produce the right amount of nutrients, which is pretty close
to that of a mother's milk. You can also purchase commercial formulas, which are
to be fed to orphaned and abandoned pups. These products closely resemble the
puppy's mother's milk, and would be the best solution.
3. A regular feeding schedule: A newborn puppy only needs to be fed about four
times per day, usually early morning, noon, early evening, and just before you
retire for the night. It is always better to under feed your puppy than to over
feed him. You should always feed your puppy the same time and place each day,
the reason for this is that puppies get used to eating at the same time and
place, and don't take well to change.
If and when you sell or give away your puppy to its new owner, you should
provide him with the puppy's feeding program, so to keep the puppy from getting
stressed during the change in locations and owners.
