Is it good to feed my dog meat only
Before feeding your dog meat only, you should definitely consider some
important facts.
It would be inadequate for a dog to eat meat alone. A diet consisting of only
meat would have a lack of calcium. When fat is trimmed off of the meat, it will
also have a deficiency of energy. These two things are the most dramatic
deficiencies for dogs.
However, meat is also one of the most vital sources of protein to feed to your
dogs. Beef and horse meat are used every year to create tons of commercial dog
foods.
Meat, should only be fed as an additive to commercial dog food, This can amount
to up to 10% of the weight in the mixture. To prevent the commercial food from
being unbalanced or inadequate, do not add in any greater amounts. Meat should
consist of at least 25 percent of the total weight of the diet when used as the
sole source of protein in a home-made ration. However, you should always
remember that home-made foods should not consist of more than 75% weight as
meat.
Except for pork, it is safe to feed any other meat to a dog cooked or raw. It is
usually more nourishing to feed a dog raw food. The heat from cooking the meat
destroys the vitamins in the food. Fat is also dissipated from the meat during
cooking, so, it should always be poured back into the meat, or it will be lost
as a valuable energy source. The main reasoning for feeding your dog cooked
meat, would be if it is pork.
It is unimportant, which animal meat, meat comes from as far as protein is
concerned. As far as nutrition is concerned, most all protein from different
kinds of animals is about the same. Besides, the fact that pork should always be
cooked before feeding it to a dog, pork liver is found to be one of the most
nutritious livers available to dogs.
