Is it bad to feed Your Dog Table Scraps
A dog could really bank on table scraps around 20 years ago, but with the
food nowadays you loose both quality and quantity, and the amount of scraps has
declined. Most meats come already precut, trimmed and packaged in its package
and ready to be cooked without much alterations. Milk comes from cartons now and
poultry comes from prepackaged cartons. Now, most foods come prepackaged in
small convenient quantities so it can be adjusted for family portions.
With the food today being fixed like they are, such as pre-trimmed,
pre-battered, pre-buttered, pre-cooked, and pre-packaged consists of only small
portions which are inedible or unwanted by people. These scraps that are left
over are not a balanced nor adequate diet for your dog.
Ask yourself the question; if I didn't have a dog what would I do with the
leftover food? If your answer is, save it for your next meal then your dog could
probably eat the leftovers, too. Although, if you would throw the leftover food
away, then you are literally feeding your dog this garbage when you feed your
dog these table scraps.
Even though table scraps has poor nutritional value, they are quite palatable.
This is a greater danger to your dog. Unless, the leftovers are finely chopped
or thoroughly blended with commercial dog foods, some dogs will just pick out
the parts they like and leave the balanced food behind.
Almost all table scraps consist of mainly fats and carbohydrates, producing a
bunch of calories and not much nutritional value. A dog obtains most of his
daily caloric needs from the unwanted scraps and then doesn't want to eat the
nutritional commercial food.
It is a lot better to feed your dog the right nutritional foods and give it what
it's body needs, rather than, giving it table scraps and rob it of the
nutritional value of the commercial dog food.
A dog doesn't know the difference between table scraps and regular dog food; it
only knows what you start them out on. If you start a dog out on table scraps,
that's what it is going to get used to and desire, it may not even eat dog food
if you try to feed it that. The same rule applies with starting them out on dog
food. It's all what they get accustomed to.
