How To keep From Wasting Food On Your Guard Dog
Most guard dogs that serve in the military as well as civilian occupations
have one thing in common: their extreme level of training. Guard dogs can serve
from anything including sentry duty, to warehouse security and many other
similar jobs, such as shore patrol, and riot control.
A guard dog is well trained and taught to keep at its maximum performance during
its shift. This can usually be for long periods of time and requires a lot of
energy use. A guard dog that is under extreme stress requires huge amounts of
energy to handle the emotional stress from its duty. Due to this lifestyle,
guard dogs use more energy than most other dogs, and require a more energy
producing diet.
Most dry foods contain 1,500 to 1,600 calories per pound, but due to a guard
dog's high-energy consumption, this isn't enough caloric density to give a guard
dog all the energy it requires. Guard dogs are generally fed only once per day,
either three hours before their shift, or three hours after the shift, and
require greater quantities to satisfy their energy needs.
To adequately provide a guard dog with the correct amount of energy it requires,
you must feed him a diet that is more concentrated, this type of diet should
contain a huge amount of energy, and it should contain all the nutrients, which
are balanced to increase the caloric density.
One of the main complaints of guard dogs that work in buildings or malls during
the night is the amount of stool they produce. It usually creates a mess, which
needs to be cleaned up, and the smell it puts off usually last for several hours
after it has been cleaned up, this causes problems for both the customers and
the employers having to smell this odor, especially while they are eating
breakfast or having their morning coffee.
This can't be avoided, it's not the guard dogs fault it is just doing its job.
But there are ways of reducing this stool problem as much as possible; you can
feed the guard dog a food containing huge amounts of energy, with the minimum
quantity of dry matter as possible. Upping the digestibility of the ingredients
added to the food can do this. When this is done, the food can be digested
easier and more will be absorbed and used for energy, and only a small portion
will become stool.
This will also aide in the smell of the stool because the digestibility of the
proteins and carbohydrates is greatly improved. This will make for a happier
work place, if you don't believe me just ask your employees after about a week.
