Feeding Your Dog Non Commercial Dog Foods

There are two options you have in which to feed your dog, one is commercial dog food and the other is non-commercial dog food.

Non-commercial foods are referred to here as foods that are not associated with a commercial enterprise; this is usually food that doesn't cost any money. This type of food is not involved with the commercial pet food industry and is not sold as dog food.

One of the first non-commercial feedings had to be with cavemen, they were probably chunking their dinosaur bones to their pet dogs.

You get the idea of how it all started, dogs where fed from tables for centuries. Most of the food that was thrown to these dogs was scraps that were nutritionally unbalanced morsels, that the dog owner didn't like or want. This is why most of the earlier dogs had growth defects due to improper nutrition.

For several thousands of years dogs had to survive and exist from food passed down to them from their owners who domesticated them. Over time, when dogs as pets, became more common, better formulations of natural ingredients were blended together for feeding our pet dogs.

This complete formula was designed to duplicate the dog's diet to a tee. It was carefully passed down from generation to generation. Only a few that were nutritionally balanced have survived. With the creation of a cheaper and far better nutritionally balanced commercial food, the old traditional formula has slowly been replaced. Some dog owners still feed their dogs scraps from the table, such as farmers, mountain men, and some of the rich and famous.

It is still possible to provide your dog with non-commercial food, a lot of people do it thinking it is more economical or provides better nutritional value. This could be the case, but studies have revealed that there is no economical or nutritional advantage for you or your dog. In fact, the dog owner is unaware that he is providing his dog with poorer nutritional value at a higher price than he would pay for commercial foods.
